Square Piano by Christopher Ganer for Longman and Broderip, London c.1780
We are pleased to offer for sale this elegant square piano by Longman and Broderip, made by Christopher Ganer c.1780
This square piano has a compass of 5 octaves (FF - f3) with a single action and over head lever dampers, with two pedals operating the buff stop and lid swell, and two hand levers operating the split sustain. The case is in mahogany with satinwood banding and herringbone inlay, and sits on a French stand with shelf.
The nameboard bears the maker's inscription in ink and is decorated with inlays and foliate swags. On the rear of the nameboard there is an inscription in ink by Ganer reading: ″ Chri.r Ganer N°47 Broad St Soho Lond.n″
The nameboard inscription reads: ″Longman and Broderip Musical Instrument Makers ⁄ N°26 Cheapside London″
