Square Piano by Longman & Broderip N° 306, London 1796
An interesting instrument, possibly made for Longman & Broderip by William Southwell. 5 ½ octaves, single action with Irish dampers, with a hole and fixing holes for an unknown mechanism to the left of the keyboard. The nameboard is painted with flowers and foliage, and bears fretwork and an enamel plaque with the inscription ‘New Patent ⁄ Longman & Broderip ⁄ London ⁄ 1796’. The case is in mahogany with inlay, the original stand is missing.
