Square Piano by Muzio Clementi N°2941, London c.1803
We are pleased to offer for sale this fine square piano by Muzio Clementi, made in London in 1803 or 1804.
This square piano has a compass of 5 ½ octaves (FF - c4) with a double action, Irish dampers and pedal operated sustain. The case is in mahogany with satinwood banding and purpleheart & brass inlays. The instrument sits on an undertray with 6 turned and reeded legs with brass castors, and two drawers. The nameboard bears a painted cartouche with the maker's inscription, and is decorated with convolvulus swags and fretwork panels. The instrument bears the stamped serial number 2941 to the left of the keyboard and the inked number 2964 on the wrestplank.
The nameboard inscription reads: ′New Patent ⁄ Muzio Clementi & Co. ⁄ Cheapside London′
