Square Piano by Adam Beyer, London 1790

We are pleased to offer for sale this exceptional square piano by Adam Beyer, perhaps the finest maker of early square pianos, made in London in 1790.

This square piano has a compass of 5 octaves (FF - f³) with a single action, overhead lever dampers, three hand levers operating a split sustain & buff stop and a pedal operated lid swell. The case and French stand are in mahogany with satinwood banding and line inlays, unusually the spine is also veneered on this piano. The keywell is crossbanded in tulipwood with coloured line inlays, and decorated with marquetry swags, foliage & instruments, the nameboard bearing the maker's inscription in ink on a sheaf of sheet music.

The nameboard inscription reads: ′Adam Beyer ⁄ Londini Fecit 1790 ⁄ Compton Street ⁄ Soho′

Overall height: 31½ (800mm).
