Fortepiano after Conrad Graf, 1826 by Christopher Barlow, Frome c.2000
We are pleased to offer for sale this fine fortepiano after Graf by Christopher Barlow, a highly respected maker who has only recently retired.
This fortepiano has a compass of 6½ octaves (CC - f4) with a Viennese action (Prellmechanik), and four pedals operating unachorda, bassoon stop, moderator and sustain. The piano is trichord and strung in period iron and brass, except for the 5 notes in the extreme bass which are bichord with close wound covered strings.
The case is veneered in bookmatched flame mahogany and rests on three columnar mahogany legs with a rail supporting the lyre.
The inscription on the name plaque reads: ′Christopher J Barlow ⁄ Frome ⁄ After Conrad Graf 1826′

Overall height: 34¾ (885mm).
This instrument is tuned to a¹=430.
